Cutting Property Taxes. John authored a plan to deliver more than $1 billion in property tax relief for New York homeowners, capping how much residents can be asked to fund their local schools through residential property taxes, and increasing state aid to make up the difference. The plan would cut property taxes 20–30% for Long Island homeowners without costing school districts a single dollar in funding, and reached the final rounds of the state budget process his last session in the NYS Senate. He also championed restoring and expanding the STAR Property-Tax Freeze Credit for more than 2 million New York homeowners, and authored legislation guaranteeing senior citizens a minimum 30% automatic property tax exemption. In the most recent state budget, he fought to suspend New York's gas tax, accelerate a scheduled middle-class tax cut by two years, and exempt student loan forgiveness awards from state taxation.

Standing Up for Veterans. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs, John led the effort to elevate New York's Division of Veterans Services to a full cabinet-level department and expanded the Joseph P. Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling Program to every county in the state, connecting veterans struggling with PTSD and traumatic brain injury to peer counselors trained in military behavioral health. He authored laws granting veterans and active-duty military service members significant tax breaks, providing Gold Star families with free college tuition, and establishing a dedicated New York State veterans cemetery, and secured millions of dollars in funding for VFWs and American Legion posts across the state.

Protecting Our Firefighters and First Responders. A volunteer firefighter himself, John delivered on a 16-year push by New York's volunteer fire departments to pass the EMS Cost Recovery Act, allowing departments to recover EMS costs through insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare instead of relying entirely on taxpayer-funded budgets, providing more than $100 million in local tax relief statewide. He has consistently secured direct funding for local fire districts and police departments, including equipment and technology upgrades.

Common-Sense Gun Safety. After the Supreme Court struck down New York's century-old concealed carry law, John co-sponsored the emergency legislation that put new restrictions in place. He authored the law banning guns designed to look like toys, and has voted for and co-sponsored restrictions on assault rifles, a stronger red flag law, and the criminalization of ghost gun sales; closing loopholes exposed by tragedies in Buffalo and Uvalde. For John, this isn't abstract policy, it's about parents not having to worry when they send their kids to school.

Protecting Our Water and Environment. John authored the legislation establishing the South Nassau Water Authority, taking on a private water company that had raised rates on South Shore residents while providing subpar service, and helped secure $100 million to contain and clean up the Bethpage Plume to protect Long Island's drinking water. His work has earned him the endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club of Long Island.

Making Government Work Better. John successfully challenged rate increases from the New York State of Health Insurance Plans, rolling them back and saving New Yorkers $400 million statewide. His legislative priorities have consistently centered on tackling government corruption, ensuring every student has access to a quality education, addressing the opioid epidemic, and making Long Island a place families can actually afford to live.

John isn't running to climb a political ladder, he never has. He's running because the issues that brought him into public service in the first place; unaffordable property taxes, underfunded schools, public safety, and a state government that too often forgets Long Island is different from New York City haven't gone away. As a senior, experienced voice in Albany, John would be positioned to bring real leadership and budget influence back to Assembly District 14 from day one.
